Hold Onto Something Long Enough And It Will Come Back! Approximately 30 breeders woldwide are continuing with the rare old lines of solids and minks. And, only a small handful of Ragdoll breeders are breeding minks so they are very rare. If you search the early pedigrees of Ann Baker's cattery, you will see that Buckwheat was a solid black cat who carried the sepia gene and Josephine, a solid white cat, carried the mink gene. This shows that solids and minks can be traced back to the very first Ragdolls. Minks are purebred Ragdolls and SBT registered and have the same wonderful, sweet, floppy personality as the traditional pointed variety of Ragdoll.
Mink Ragdolls are born with full color, unlike the traditional pointed Ragdoll. Traditional Ragdoll kittens usually take several days to begin to show color. The coat of a Mink is smoother and much softer, and develops a darker and richer point color than the Traditional Ragdoll. The body color of a Mink is a few grades lighter than their points. Minks come in the same traditional colors: Seal, Blue, Blue/Cream, Lilac, Flame, Cream, Chocolate and Tortie. Mink Ragdolls also have the traditional coat patterns: Bicolor, Mitted Colorpoint and Lynx. A Mink's eye color is usually aqua (a stunning Blue-Green), reminiscent of a tropical island ocean. Mink Ragdolls can give birth to both minks, traditional pointed kittens, solids as well as sepia. Mink Ragdolls bred to a traditional Ragdoll will produce 75% mink kittens and 25% traditional kittens. When two mink cats are bred together, a richer color, called sepia, is produced. Sepia colored Ragdolls normally have gold or green eye color, but there are some with blue and aqua eyes as well. Sepia Ragdolls come in all the traditional colors including Smoke or Silver as well as all the traditional patterns. Sepia Ragdolls have a much richer coat.
